Composing Better Photographs
The most effective photographic composition generally
attracts the viewer to one strong point of interest or some
main subject in the picture. The composition achieves this
attraction by the way that its elements are arranged.
The eye is brought to the subject or focus of the photograph
by the correct positioning of the main subject, and arranging
the other elements so that they form a path that directs the
eye to the subject.
Only after focussing on the main subject should the eye be
guided to explore the minor elements in the photograph.
Experiment by shooting more than one picture of your subject,
from more than one angle, using different F-stop settings on
your lens, and at different times of day. Above all, pay
attention to what's in the background to eliminate
distractions and maximize the visual impact of your main
subject.
